Yellow Peace Roses

I put my sons boots up in Winter...

now it's Spring and I saw these Yellow Peace Roses

and thought of all the Boots on the Ground

and want them all to be safe and come Home!

My Life

My back is stiff when I wake up in the morning. My knees protest those first movements in the morning. I feel old.

I start my day washing back the drug cocktail the Army has me on.

Doxycycline for Malaria. Adderall for ADHD. Zoloft for combat stress. Prazosin for nightmares.

In years of service my body has taken a decade’s worth of wear and tear. For many, this would be a nightmare. For me, I wouldn’t…

For That Soldier On His Way

For that soldier on his way...

I pray to thee, please watch his heart

No harm entered, around, or found

Please place over him your own protectoral mound

And the way left and returned, the same be

I pray to thee, please watch his hands

Not idle, worn or tattered

Please give him strength that…

Only The Most Capable Apply

“First, strap on around 100lbs of additional equipment, thereby making you slow, cumbersome, and constantly uncomfortable.  Next, remove a regular meal schedule, which makes you weak.   Finally, only sleep for a couple hours at a time, usually in your gear and when it’s too hot to move, as many Infantry units operate mainly at night.   All of this reaches a crescendo when it’s combined with the ever present reminder that any mistake you make can cost your peers life and…

Waiting...

It get’s so hard sometimes! Some days can go on for ages and you just sit and over think everything and how you wish time would hurry until he’s back with you, and your in his arms!... But while I’m wishing time would hurry I am also hoping the time won’t come for him to go away again. I wish all this would end and I can just have him home, to myself!…

Missing My Best Friend

  • I miss you. I know that I say that all the time, but I really do. It’s not even the romantic part of our lives, I miss my husband.... and I'm missing you. Oh no, it’s so much more than that.

It’s the ‘I miss my best friend’ kind of emotion.

If I ever needed proof that you were the one or that this was real love, this deployment has definitely proven just that to me.

I have never in my life not felt complete and for the first time, I find myself…

The Strongest Love

Everything would be so much simpler if he was here, or even able to talk whenever you need him. Things would be so much easier and stress free. Your heart literally always aches, you always worry, and you feel extremely lonely. You’re constantly annoyed by all the other couples, because they’re so needy and attached. You daydream about just hearing his voice, for even 5 minutes.

You dream about seeing him…

An Airman's Farewell

His heart is the subtle setting moon

as we cling to our last moments together,

getting lost in ‘see you soon.’

I know I won’t see him again until June,

and months apart are difficult to weather

because his heart is the subtle setting moon.

He spoke his goodbyes like a gentle tune

and for a second it didn’t matter whether

we were getting lost in ‘see you soon.’

Although, I know I am not immune

to tears turning my cheeks raw as…

Empty

At times this is so hard…I’ve never had to do anything this hard in my entire life. He texted me yesterday morning to tell me that he loves me and misses me…Knowing that he does but not being together right now is tearing me apart. I haven’t heard his voice since he told me he wanted a break to figure out who he is. The last thing I heard from him was him crying on the other end of the line.  I…

It's One Of Those Moments

It's one of those “I miss you so much, it’s almost unbearable” moments. I never knew that my heart could hurt, literally hurt, until you left. That I could physically and emotionally just ache for someone like this. I miss you so much that it almost paralyzes me sometimes.

So often I go through day to day and don’t think about the fact that you’re actually gone and everything that is compiled into what that actually means…but then a song comes on, a memory is triggered by…

The Only Shot

May my barrel be steady
And my aim be true.
May my bullet fly straight
Till the deed is through.
And may the killing shot
Be the only shot that’s dealt.

Daily Struggles

I wake up everyday knowing that I will have to go another day without seeing my soldier. I will have to push through the day without a phone call, text message, hug or kiss. I will struggle to keep my head held high because deep down I am struggling even more to keep my hopes high. The struggle is the hardest thing to get through. But everyday I get closer to seeing him, holding him, hugging him and kissing him. Everyday my heart gets stronger for the fact I love him more and more everyday.…

Missing Him

Every time someone finds out that I have a boyfriend in the military, they say things like, “You’re a strong girlfriend.” or they ask, “How do you do it?” Truth is, you never get use to it. You just learn how to deal with it.

I really, really, really miss my boyfriend!

A Journey To The Unknown

The wind blows across the land,

Thoughts turn in his head,

Across the oceans into the sand,

The man makes his bed.

A journey to the unknown,

An adventure to be seen,

Yet he is alone.

A great burden he is to see,

A victory not to be,

Troubled times lie in wait,

But all he has is hate,

Will…

Prayer For Those Who Await a Soldier's Return

Prayer for Those who Await a Soldier's Return

God of all goodness,

Look with love on those who wait

for the safe return of their loved ones

who serve in the armed forces of their country.

In faith and hope, we turn to you for comfort.

Grant that we may trust in your mercy

and send an angel to sustain us as…

Deployment

A word that every milso hates. And his is coming up in about a month. I’m trying not to think about it and trying to enjoy every single minute I get to talk to him... but it’s coming up, and soon. We’ve been arguing about stupid things lately and I would hate for him to leave on a bad note and then only be able to talk to him MAYBE once a week if I’m lucky.

I don’t even know why we keep picking fights with each other. We have…

Moments

There are moments when I miss you so much that I just want to pick you from my dreams and hug you for real, hug you safe, and hug you home.

I miss you.

Keep My Soldier Safe

Dear Father, can you hear me?

As I come to You tonight

In need of You to wipe my tears

And comfort all my fright ~

Life seems so safe for me

With four sturdy walls to call my home

While our soldiers fight this battle

Out there on their own ~

We sit here with endless prayers

For their health and protection

Living off the memories

Of their love and affection ~

In pictures, we see their faces

Standing proud and tall

Full of…
